Haitian Pascal gets world title shot
Wednesday, September 24, 2008

QUEBEC, Canada:

Haitian-bornsuper-middleweight boxer Jean Pascal has finally achieved a world title shot and will travel to England for the assignment in December.

The 25-year-old Canada-based Pascal will tackle Britain's Carl Froch in a clash of unbeaten boxers on December 6 for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) title in the 168-pound division.

record

Pascal, who has a pair of Caribbean boxers on his victims' list, boasts an impressive record of 21-0 with 14 knockouts.

He defeated Bahamian Jermaine Mackey on points in November 2006 and stopped Barbadian Ricardo Kellman in two rounds in September 2005. Mackey went on to win the Commonwealth title.

The WBC's No.3 ranked Froch enters the bout -- at the Trent FM Arena in his home city of Nottingham -- with a record of 23-0 with 19 knockouts.

inactive

Inactive since January this year when he defeated American Omar Pittman on points in Florida, Pascal holds a No.3 ranking with the WBC and is also No.3 in the World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) rankings. In Froch's most recent bout, he stopped Poland's Albert Rybacki in four rounds at the Nottingham Arena.
